About Us

OUR MISSION

The mission of NewInBridge, the new BridgeTopics.com, is to develop, market and sell digital bridge products, communicate bridge news and feature bridge tournaments and festivals. NIB is committed to improve these services continuously.

THE TEAM

Eric Rodwell

Eric is the chief bridge theorist of NewInBridge. He is the editor of each Topic and the author of the majority of the Topics (tutorials on modern bridge theory). Eric has a longstanding reputation for his contributions to modern bridge theory. He developped Support Doubles and Redoubles, Serious NoTrump and many more conventions. With many world titles behind his name Eric is one of the most successful bridgeplayers in history. He therefore can be considered as the anchorman of BridgeTopics.com.  In 2001 Bridgematters.com made an extensive interview with Eric which clarifies his ideas on bridge. Eric picked up bridge at the age of eleven and loved the game immediately. He started studying the game when he was fourteen, reading all sorts of books about Blue Team Club, Precision, and works by Reese, Kantar, and others. Later when he began playing with Jeff Meckstroth he realized that there were major gaps in understanding about bidding in particular. This guided him to a long study of bidding conventions and principles that continues to this day. Eric lives with his wife Donna in Florida and in summertime, in North-Carolina.

Jan van Cleeff

Jan is co-founder of NewInBridge and founding editor of BridgeTopics.com. In his thirties he dropped his career as a banker and decided that it was much more fun to earn his money with bridge. Jan is the founding father of several bridge magazines. He still owns IMP, a Dutch bridge magazine for the advanced player, of which he has now been the executive editor for almost 25 years. He is also co-founder and co-author of de Kibitzer, a weekly e-column for the Dutch market. Jan is a true centipede in the world of bridge, as a player, as a journalist, as an organizer of events and as a staff member of the World Bridge Federation and the European Bridge League. Jan is single and lives in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Elisabeth van Ettinger

Elisabeth co-ordinates the NewInBridge Grand Tour. She spent her working life as a psychotherapist, and retired recently. After learning bridge at seventeen, as a student, she became hooked to the game and made it to the Dutch Ladies team in 1981. Over the last years she preferred to play in mixed teams championships, with a bronze medal at the open European Championships 2005 in Tenerife as her greatest succes. As a psychologist she contributed to the mental training/coaching of young and promising female bridge players. Elisabeth travels around the world to make pictures at bridge events, mostly as a photographer for Bridge Magazine IMP, but at times for daily bulletins, at all the big championships. Elisabeth is single and lives with her two cats in Amsterdam.

Jan Swaan

Jan is responsible for the E-marketing. By profession he is an educational psychologist with survey experience having done academic observation studies in different fields. So he is familiar with communication and statistics. He speaks six foreign languages and works as Press Room manager during the major World and European Bridge Championships. Jan began playing bridge at home when he was 15 years old and still loves the game as a happy social event. He has a passion for the good life in Italy, France & Sweden, where he enjoys spending his holidays.

Paul Maris

Paul is co-editor of the Topics Collection. In the Netherlands he is well known for his theoretical knowledge of the game as well as his bridge archive, which resulted in many contributions to bridge books and magazines. As a player he won numerous tournaments and also played at the highest competition level. He served the Netherlands Bridge Federation, the European Bridge League and the World Bridge Federation, particularly in the field of masterpoints. Born in Amsterdam, Paul is currently living with his wife Mieke in Lelystad, in the central part of the country; they have two children.
