Today the Yeh Bros Cup Bridge Invitational Championships has started with an unprecedented first prize of one hundred thousand dollars. The event is held in Wuxi, situated in the Mid-Eastern part of China at the Taihu (Lake Tai) waterfront. The finals will be played on Friday April 22nd.
Due to the generous support of Mr. Chen Yeh the organizers in joint effort with the Chinese Contract Bridge Association and the Wuxi's People Government succeeded to attract a powerful field consisting of quite a few world class teams and players. To predict which teams are favorite to win the Cup is not an easy task. Still, your editor likes to give it a shot: Lavazza from Italy (Bocchi-Madala, Duboin-Sementa), Israel (Barel-Zack, Ginossar-Pachtman), Sweden (Fallenius-Fredin, Nystrom-Berthau) and last time winners The Netherlands (Brink-Drijver, Verhees-Van Prooijen). However, it would not come as a big surprise that in the end one of the many strong Chinese contenders will claim the 100K.
